Guy Lafranchi

Born 1966 in Bern. Education in architecture at the ETH Zurich, diploma 1994. Since 1995 privately employed, Atelier Guy Lafranchi Bern. Since 1995, collaboration with Lebbeus Woods (1940–2012). Since 2006 Director of RIEA.ch, Bern (Research Institute for Experimental Architecture). Since 2006 Professor of Architecture at the University of Applied Sciences Bern, specializing in design and innovation processes.

Glad Ltd. (Guy Lafranchi Applied Design), since 2010, is an internationally active architecture and design studio based in Bern, Switzerland, a design consulting platform for planning, architecture and design processes as well as design communication. Glad Ltd is "Part of Mic.mind.set", a cooperation with fsp architects focusing on the digital chain (design, planning, execution and operation), Guy Lafranchi as an expert in the field of design processes and workshops in the strategic phases.

Since 2012, Co-Head of international Master Studio ELOP (Environmental Learning and Operative Platform) together with partner universities Tec Monterrey Mexico, Bangor University Wales, Stanford University USA, Politecnico Milano Italy, Cologne University of Applied Sciences Germany, Bauhaus Weimar Germany, HEPIA Geneva Switzerland.

Since 2011, Guy Lafranchi has been a cooperative member of the partner company Umbra Architektur, focusing on conversions and new buildings as well as shop design.

Since 2016 Guy Lafranchi is VRP of the company JUST BE Innovation AG which aims at the operation as well as the development in the hotel and gastronomy sector, furthermore she is owner of the Boutique Hotel Justbeandb in Sicily JUST BE

In addition to numerous publications in magazines and periodicals, the following monographs were published: "Archonpoison" (1999, SpringerWienNewYork), "Prisoners of Museum" (2001, SpringerWienNewYork), "Urbanomad" (2004, SpringerWienNewYork). Glad Llt "The company aims at the mediation and development of innovative interdisciplinary design processes in the field of architecture, the consulting of companies in the planning and construction industry, the development of object and furniture design as well as the mediation of the methodology of design processes at universities, educational institutions and similar institutions.

  • The Research Institute for Experimental Architecture (RIEA) was founded in 1988 by Lebbeus Woods, architect, theorist, critic and professor of architecture. After the first conference on experimental architecture - organized by Lebbeus Woods in New York State and including Peter Cook, Neil M. Denari, Michael Sorkin, Hani Rashid, Michael Webb, Lise Anne Couture, Gordon Gilbert and Ted Krueger - RIEA developed the discourse on experimentation in architecture and urbanism.
