GLAD SENSES – functional hybrid art

GLAD SENSES – functional hybrid art

“Where art and design collide, hybrid forms emerge beyond established categories.”

GLAD SENSES stands for hybrid functional art – combining traditional craftsmanship with digital fabrication, and enriched by GAIA (Guy’s AI Agent) as Co-Creator and Co-Communicator. From this practice, the extended fields of GLAD unfold:

• URBAN MORPHOLOGIES – Architecture & Transformation • SPATIAL MATTERS – Interiors & Digital Fabrication • WILD RIDE – Lectures & Consulting

GLAD SENSES thus acts not in isolation but as the driving impulse behind the entire GLAD Cloud.

Beyond Senses

Beyond Senses

“Hand-knotted. Shaped by the wind.”

“Strictly limited series of one-of-a-kind pieces.”

Beyond Senses – Golden Dune (Hofburg Vienna 2025) is part of the debut edition of only 10 unique works worldwide.

BEYOND SENSES emerges between two worlds:

• in Nepal, where weavers preserve centuries-old techniques. • in Switzerland, where decommissioned wind turbine blades are transformed into sculptural forms.

The textile – a living body of highland wool and bamboo silk, hand-knotted thread by thread, shaped by subtle irregularities that give it soul. Produced by Geba Teppiche Nepal / Graz.

The structure – formed through 3D printing, crafted from recycled glass fibre polymer, stable, lightweight, ready to hold and embrace the carpet. Produced by Form AG Bern / Switzerland

Two processes. One object. One ethos.

The making-of of the project Beyond Senses can be viewed under Particles > Films.

GAIA

GAIA

GAIA – Guy’s AI Agent

GAIA is a digital counterpart, systematically drawing on 30 years of working methods, formal worlds, proportions, and the experimental thinking of Guy Lafranchi.

Each project is expanded by GAIA with this stored knowledge – acting as a Co-Creator in the design process and as a Co-Communicator in its narration.

For every project, a distinct manifestation of GAIA emerges, shaped by its specific context – such as GAIA Piraino, GAIA Stadelmann, GAIA Nomadic Habitat LA, GAIA Bern UNESCO, or GAIA Norqain.

This creates an ongoing dialogue between human, machine, and material – the foundation of GLAD SENSES and its interconnected extensions.

Butterfly Help Project

Butterfly Help Project

Beyond Senses supports the Butterfly Help Project by Andrea and Norbu Sherpa Zimmermann. The project is dedicated to the education and future of children in Nepal who lost their parents in the earthquake. With every Beyond Senses piece, we aim to contribute to creating hope and opportunities.
